When I visit my family in California (as I am right now), I try to unwind. One of the ways I do that is to draw really weird (see above). It shakes me up, and hopefully opens me up to more experimentation in the long run. I always want to draw people like the ones above – loose and strange, aiming to be like this Saul Steinberg cover for the New Yorker from 2004 that I think of very often. My goal in drawing is always to find ways to close the gap between what I draw and post online, and what I draw and keep in my sketchbook. This is one of those attempts.
